Always good to see people like
Bob Crowley and
Michael Chiriac. Microphones were definitely on the agenda.
Lots of interesting portable recorders on the floor. I feel in love with the Korg MR-1
digital recored - 1-bit recording, 20 GB harddrive, what’s not to like? - until I saw the fine print: continuous recording is
limited to 6 hours. Too bad.
Blu-Ray is spectacular. I’ve seen the in-store demos, but there were a few expo exhibits that
really showed how good Blu-Ray can be. Wow
Bob Crowley introduced me to Tad Rollow who in turn
introduced me to David Josephson. Two things came out of my
conversation with David: 1) I’m seriously considering
NVLAP accreditation, and 2) I may join the AES
SC-04-04 working group.
I had a great conversations with Noland Lewis of ACO Pacific and Jim Weir of Brüel and Kjær about their
flagships products (SLARM and the
B&K 2250). These guys get it.
Ethan Winer confirmed to me that the RealTraps
has officially discontinued their Soffit Traps product. Too bad, but business is business.
And in closing, here is a little music video that Mercenary Audio put together to
introduce Crowley and Tripp’s new El Diablo
microphone:
