Mini-review: I received a Digital Innovations SkipDoctor as a stocking stuffer this past Christmas. I tried it out on one my CD’s — the CD had a lot of light scratches on its outer edge, and the last few tracks on this CD were either unplayable or skipped heavily on every CD player/CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive I tried it on.

The SkipDoctor appears to do everything by-the-book. In particular, the polishing wheel moves radially across the disc, using a slow and smooth motion. I put the CD through the kit, and the CD plays fine now.

I don’t know how well this device works on deep scratches, and of course I can’t guarantee it works all the time, but it does seem to work. Please remember that anecdotes are not data.
